This is a quantitative/legal study addressing the legal knowledge needed for students to begin a pre-service internship (student teaching) and the actual knowledge they have. This is a two-part research project, whereby in the first part, principals in Michigan will be surveyed to acquire a baseline for what student teachers should know about the law as they enter their placement. The second portion will be an examination developed through the principal survey, which provides a raw score for student teacher knowledge by administering the exam to various cohorts of student teachers at multiple universities and colleges in Michigan. Anticipated presentation Education Law Association and submission to law journals/educational leadership/teacher preparation journals.
