Biography

Danika L. Comey, MPH, is a dedicated public health professional and PhD candidate in Indigenous and Rural Health at Montana State University. With a background in coordinating health programs and leading research initiatives, Danika has been at the forefront of addressing healthcare disparities, particularly focusing on Latina women's access to services in rural, new immigrant destinations. Recognized for her expertise, she has co-authored articles, presented at conferences, and actively engages in community leadership roles to promote health equity and well-being. Danika is the program manager and research lead for Proyecto SALUD: Scientists and Latinos United against Disparities at the Montana State University (MSU) Mark and Robyn Jones College of Nursing. Danika brings her expertise in public health to the lab after earning her master's in public health and working in the field for the last decade. She coordinates the outreach efforts of the program to implement quarterly community screening events, where nursing and medical students provide preventive health care and Smiles Across Montana provides preventive dental care to the uninsured, Spanish-speaking immigrant population in southwest Montana. Danika is also a PhD candidate at Montana State University in the Indigenous and Rural Health program with an expected graduation date in December 2025. Danika’s relationships with Latina women provide the direction for her doctoral dissertation work. Danika has a background in research methods, program development, and program monitoring and evaluation. She is passionate about health promotion, community outreach, and health equity.
