Biography
Hwan Shim is an assistant professor at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Technology at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT).
Dr. Shim received the B.S. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering in 2003, and the Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science in 2008, all from Seoul National University, Korea.
His professional work experiences include being a lecturer for three years at Dong-Ah Institute of Media and Arts (DIMA) (Korea), a visiting scholar for one year and four months at Stanford University, a principal engineer for eleven years at Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., and a postdoctoral research scholar/assistant research scientist for one year and seven months at the University of Iowa.
He is a creative innovator with 24 US-granted patents and a passionate educator in applied acoustics.
His research interests include applied acoustics, auditory cognitive neuroscience, speech/music perception, hearing aid algorithms, sound source separation, and spatial audio capturing/rendering.
