Lawrence Mbaki

My name is Lawrence Mbaki. I am from the beautiful city of Cape Town, South Africa but my family and I reside in Cedar City, Utah. I am a junior with a double major in theater arts and music education at Southern Utah University (SUU). I am the first of 5 children and attribute so much to my family. I am a proud Thunderbird (SUU's nickname) and you will find me cheering for anything that supports anyone on campus. I strive to be very involved on campus and love to spread positivity wherever I go. In my spare time I enjoy cooking, baking, swimming, hiking, camping and the beautiful outdoors that Southern Utah has to offer. I love playing games with my family from pickleball to board games, to general knowledge trivia, to anime. I love to read and write and you will find me moving my hips on the ballroom floor, as I am on the SUU Ballroom Touring Team. I find immense joy in serving others and building and cultivating deep and lasting connections with people, no matter who you are but especially those closest to me. My ambitions are to open an art school in my beloved Cape town, write for the screen and stage, perform and teach music, theater, and dance. His biggest dream is to travel around the world in impoverished areas and teach children and adolescents, without pay. I am currently working as the Pre-award Student Ambassador in the Sponsored Programs, Agreements, Research, and Contracts (SPARC) Office here at SUU, a position I've held for 4 years. I love Research Administration, the work we do that help faculty, staff and student find and secure external funding that helps move their different programs and research consequently benefiting the student.
