Biography
Dr. Askar currently works as a Professor and Program Director at the Engineering & Technology Dept., Southern Utah University. He was granted his Ph.D. degree in civil engineering from Brandenburg University, Germany. He has more than 30 years of combined experience as an industry expert, teacher, researcher, M.Sc., and Ph.D. adviser.
He worked for over 25 years as the founder and CEO of a group of construction companies in different countries, including the Middle East, the Far East, Europe, and the USA. His companies are diversified into civil engineering design, construction contracting, project management, engineering consultation, real estate, and professional training. He worked on different types of projects, such as residential buildings (high-, medium- and low-rise buildings), institutional and commercial, international airports, hotels, environmental structures, industrial, military, medical facilities, utilities and infrastructures, highways, bridges, tunnels and specialized heavy civil construction.
He has more than 25 years of experience teaching undergraduate and graduate courses at different universities. As a teacher, he is bridging the gap between traditional teaching methods and applying industry knowledge in the classroom, which not only develops the curriculum but can help students understand the link between theory and practice and better prepare them for the future. He worked as a professor and chair of the Construction Engineering Department in Egypt.
He consults with different Governmental Agencies in most Middle and Far East countries as a consultant for strategic planning, development programs and technical aspects related to construction engineering and management. He participates in interdisciplinary funded research programs. He has written numerous peer-reviewed research papers for technical publications and textbooks on civil engineering, construction, renovation, automation, design-based performance, and engineering education quality. He has advised more than 35 M.Sc. and Ph.D. students and contributed to Departments, Colleges, Universities, Professions and Society.
