Biography
I'm Dr. Myeshia C. Babers, a cultural anthropologist, educator, and filmmaker dedicated to bridging academia, industry, and communities to create positive social impact. As an Assistant Professor in the Department of Ethnic Studies at Western Washington University, I bring a unique blend of academic rigor and real-world experience to my work.
I earned my Ph.D. in Anthropology from Texas A&M University, focusing on knowledge production among Black Cowboys. My research and creative work span various fields, including African American studies, masculinities, and popular culture. I've published in peer-reviewed journals and contributed to public scholarship platforms like BlackPast.org.
As a filmmaker, I'm currently in the process of applying for grants and raising capital to complete my latest documentary project. My previous works include "Beyond the Schoolyard: A Testament to the Power of Education," and I've served as Production Manager on the feature film "Armstrong 2." One of my proudest achievements was securing a State Historic Landmark designation for Calvert Colored/W.D. Spigner High School, preserving an important piece of cultural heritage.
I'm known for my ability to create safe, non-judgmental spaces for learning and growth, translating complex cultural concepts into engaging narratives. My interdisciplinary expertise and talent for fostering meaningful connections allow me to make a unique impact in academic, creative, and corporate environments.
