My research interests are founded in the complex nature of the systemic effects of traumatic brain injury on neurophysiological function and have been shaped by my scholarship in exercise physiology, neuroscience, and biomechanics. The goal of my research is to improve the understanding of the breadth of chronic impairments that can manifest following a traumatic brain injury by incorporating the tenets of kinesiology and exercise science to examine how the body responds and adapts to incurred damage to neural tissue and networks from systemic, biomechanical, and physiological perspectives. The aims of my current projects look to examine (1) the alterations in kinematics and sensorimotor integration contributing to static and dynamic postural stability associated with orthopedic injury risk and traumatic brain injury, and (2) the utilization of graded aerobic exercise to examine autonomic nervous system function within both acute and chronic traumatic brain injury populations.
