Biography

Dr. Savino BIRYOMUMAISHO is an Associate Professor of Clinical Veterinary Medicine in the Department of Veterinary Pharmacy, Clinical and Comparative Medicine (PCM) at the College of Veterinary Medicine, Animal Resources and Biosecurity (CoVAB), Makerere University, Uganda. I hold a PhD in Veterinary Medicine, a Master of Science in Veterinary Clinical Pathology, a Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine, Diploma in Education and several certificates in animal health and production-related disciplines among other qualifications. Currently, I am the coordinator of Clinical Veterinary Medicine training at the School of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Resources (SVAR) and member of SVAR Institutional Animal Care and Use in Research Committee/Institutional Review Board (SVAR-IACUC/IRB) as well as member of the Technical Working Group of Research Management at CoVAB. I am a member of Makerere University Senate, representing academic staff of SVAR. I served as Senior Scientist, Animal Health (2011-2016) at Rwanda Agriculture Board (RAB) / Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Resources (MINAGRI) and was based in the Veterinary Services Unit / National Veterinary Laboratory at Rubirizi, Kigali. Earlier, I taught clinical veterinary medicine at Umutara Polytechnic, currently University of Rwanda, Nyagatare Campus. I have published a wide range of topics in the discipline of Animal Health. I have further undertaken a number of short course animal health and production skill-based trainings in different countries that include Israel, Kenya, United Kingdom, Portugal, Belgium, China and United States among others as well as participated in a number of research initiatives. I am an all-round professional in terms of having a career that has seen me serve at senior positions in both veterinary professionals’ training at Makerere University since 1994 and Veterinary Services Unit in the Animal Resources Extension Department at RAB (2011-2016).I have experience in institutional capacity building and mentorship for animal health scientists and implementation of community development programs through servicing livestock development projects. I have human capacity development experience by teaching at university for 25 years.
