**[What We Do](https://www.acf.hhs.gov/ana/about/what-we-do)** ANA promotes self-sufficiency for Native Americans by providing discretionary grant funding for community-based projects, and training and technical assistance to eligible tribes and native organizations. **[Leadership](https://www.acf.hhs.gov/ana/about/leadership)** Patrice H. Kunesh, of Standing Rock Lakota descent, is the commissioner of the Administration for Native Americans, at the Administration for Children and Families in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Kunesh also serves as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Native American Affairs, and Chair of the Intra-departmental Council on Native American Affairs (ICNAA). **[Team](https://www.acf.hhs.gov/ana/team)** ANA is comprised of the Office of the Commissioner, the Division of Program Operations, the Division of Policy, Planning, and Evaluation, and the Management Operations staff. **[History](https://www.acf.hhs.gov/ana/about/history)** In January 1964, President Lyndon B. Johnson declared the War on Poverty, a collection of ideals that ultimately laid the foundation for ANA. **[Partnerships](https://www.acf.hhs.gov/ana/about/partnerships)** In order to maximize resources on behalf of native communities, ANA partners with related programs in the Administration for Children and Families and the Department of Health and Human Services, as well as with other Federal agencies and nonprofit organizations.
