OUR VISION
An Arizona whose diverse landscapes are healthy and whose people are protected from the threat of fire.
OUR MISSION
To foster, maintain, and enhance collaboration with partners, stakeholders, and cooperators to: proactively promote the health and safety of Arizona's forests, woodlands, deserts, and watersheds; encourage fire-adapted communities; provide leadership and oversight of resources in wildfire response; and ensure fire safety in public buildings through the enforcement of the state fire code.
OUR PURPOSE
The Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management provides resources for the prevention and suppression of wildland fire on State Trust Land and private property located outside incorporated communities. The agency provides services for fire prevention, urban and community forestry, forest stewardship, forest health, utilization and marketing, and has a wide variety of grants available.
- Our fire suppression efforts support aviation resources, firefighter training, dispatching of personnel and equipment, and business management information.
- Our fire prevention efforts include, helping communities learn about and become Firewise, community prevention planning, homeowner and community risk assessments, and youth education.
- The Department of Forestry and Fire Management acquires and refurbishes wildland firefighting equipment and makes these resources available to rural fire department and fire districts.
- The Urban and Community Forestry program offers assistance to communities and homeowners in care and management of their trees, planting projects, along with the Champion, Heritage, and Witness trees in the state.
- The Forest Stewardship program offers forest landowner assistance with management plans, provides forest resource stewardship through strategic implementation of forest health policies, and cooperative forestry assistance programs.
- The Forest Health program offers technical assistance to communities and landowners on the numerous insects and diseases that threaten their trees.
- The Utilization and Marketing program offers communities, contractors, and companies assistance in starting, improving, or expanding their operations to provide markets for the vast hazardous fuel reduction and forest restoration efforts that are needed within the state.
- The Department of Forestry and Fire Management's Grant Department provides funding to help communities in a multitude of ways. The monies help reduce hazardous fuels, acquire equipment and supplies and provide training for local firefighters, help with prevention of insect and disease outbreaks, reduce invasive plants, and provide for cost share grants for urban community efforts.
