Description
ABOUT Founded in 2004, the Center for Africana Studies offers students a BA in Africana Studies and a minor. The center promotes rigorous, methodical, and unflinching discussion about the TransAtlantic Slave Trade and its fundamental role in making modern society. The center serves as the intellectual home for students, researchers, and faculty across the university whose interests include historical, political, artistic, scientific, literary, educational, and economic work engaging with Africa and the African Diaspora. Its mission is to serve as a critical corrective to the academy’s traditional approach to knowledge creation and dissemination. Our courses focus on the human experience in the context of social, political, demographic, cultural, religious, and economic systems. They also offer a unique perspective on racism, colonialism, capitalism, and geography that properly situates the importance of people of color to the making of the modern world.
