Description
Located at the heart of the [University of Wisconsin-Madison](http://www.wisc.edu/) campus, the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences (CALS) is one of the oldest and most prestigious colleges devoted to the study of our living world.
Established in 1889, CALS carries out [UW-Madison](http://www.wisc.edu/)’s mission as a land-grant public university through excellence in teaching, research and public outreach across 15 academic departments. By encouraging collaboration and innovation across these fields, the college is working to address society’s grand challenges in the areas of food systems; ecosystems; climate change; bioenergy and bioproducts; economic and community development; and health and wellness.
CALS has nearly 250 faculty who help carry out the college’s research, education and outreach missions. Several dozen faculty and staff are jointly funded with the [Division of Extension](https://extension.wisc.edu/), placing them in positions to work closely with communities in delivering valuable information and advice to Wisconsin citizens, businesses and organizations.
CALS operates a network of 11 [agricultural research stations](http://ars.wisc.edu/) located across the state as well as the on-campus CALS Greenhouses. Combined, the stations have more than 8,000 acres and conduct hundreds of research projects annually.
