Description
**Cybersecurity Programs**
Cyber adversaries have presented a full spectrum of threats not only to the U.S. government, but also to private organizations and critical infrastructure sectors. As the internet grew, criminal malicious internet activity – aimed at a profit gain, hacktivism and espionage – spread. Perhaps even more visible than adware and spyware were phishing emails, zero day attacks, rootkits and rogue anti-spyware incidents.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Science and Technology Directorate (ST) cyber mission contributes to enhancing the security and resilience of the nation’s critical information infrastructure and the internet by (1) developing and delivering new technologies, tools and techniques to enable DHS and the U.S. to defend, mitigate and secure current and future systems, networks and infrastructure against cyberattacks; (2) conduct and support technology transition and (3) lead and coordinate research and development (RD) among the RD community which includes Department customers, government agencies, the private sector and international partners.
