About Us
The Department of Neuroscience at Baylor College of Medicine has annual aggregate research funding of nearly $28 million. The 2023 Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research report ranked our Department as the fourth largest recipient of federal funding from the National Institutes of Health in the United States, a testament to the quality, rigor and depth of our research.
Research interests of the Department of Neuroscience include information processing in visual, auditory, and vestibular systems; neural mechanisms mediating higher nervous system functions, including perception, learning, memory, attention, and decision making; development and regeneration in the central and peripheral nervous system; and the development of new technologies to read and stimulate neural activity, including functional magnetic neuroimaging, transcranial magnetic stimulation, and two-photon microscopy. The Department of Neuroscience also includes the Center for Neuroscience and Artificial Intelligence, a strategic research center at BCM.
The Neuroscience Graduate Program is a top-tier program at BCM that marries interdisciplinary science with other fields such as chemistry, computer science, engineering, linguistics, mathematics, medicine and allied disciplines, philosophy, physics, and psychology. It is our honor and privilege to train future leaders in neurosciences research who will discover the causes of and develop treatments for neurological diseases.
