**Why OU?**
The mission of the University of Oklahoma is to provide the best possible educational experience for our students through excellence in teaching, research and creative activity, and service to the state and society. The objective of the Graduate College is to guide, support, and enhance the educational experience of every graduate student at the university.
The OU Graduate College is the center of advanced study, research, and creative activity at the university. Graduate instruction has been offered at the University of Oklahoma since 1899. The first master’s degree was conferred in 1900 to C. Ross Hume and in 1929, the first doctoral degree was awarded to Dr. Mary Jane Brown.
The university offers 181 majors at the master’s level, 87 doctoral–level majors, 37 doctoral professional majors, and 68 graduate certificates.
