About the Foundation The Harold and Rachel McMillen Foundation was created in 1961 to support educational, scientific, religious or charitable purposes. The McMillens were longtime residents of Fort Wayne, Indiana. Harold McMillen was born on September 29, 1906. He was the son of Dale McMillen, founder of Central Soya. He attended Oberlin College and the Purdue School of Agriculture. Following college, he worked for a few years outside of the industry, but then returned to one of his father’s businesses, Central Soya Company, and later became its president. In 1945, he joined Central Soya as vice-president and sales director. In 1947, he married Rachel Elizabeth Baird. During his tenure with Central Soya, Harold McMillen became executive vice-president and then chairman of the board. He retired in 1970. The company’s areas of operation included soybean processing, feed manufacturing, and grain merchandising. In addition to his excellence in business, Harold McMillen spent his time and resources toward the improvement of his community. He died on March 26, 1984. His wife, Rachel, died on March 26, 2005.
