Description
The mission of Louisiana Public Broadcasting (LPB) is to provide programming that is intelligent, informative, educational and entertaining. LPB connects the citizens of the state by creating content that showcases Louisiana’s unique history, people, places and events. LPB is a state network of six non-commercial television stations in Alexandria, Baton Rouge, Lafayette, Lake Charles, Monroe, and Shreveport licensed to the Louisiana Educational Television Authority (LETA), established in 1971 by the Louisiana Legislature. LPB is also affiliated with WLAE-TV in New Orleans. LPB airs quality national PBS programming including PBS NewsHour, MASTERPIECE, NOVA, NATURE, Antiques Roadshow, Great Performances, as well the many educational programs from PBS KIDS. In addition to its main channel (LPB1), LPB and PBS have a 24/7 children’s channel (LPB2), and LPB and Create TV have a how-to and lifestyle channel (LPB3). LPB produces award-winning programs for television including Louisiana: The State We’re In, the longest-running weekly newsmagazine in the state; Louisiana Spotlight, a new quarterly documentary-style series exploring the people, places and issues of importance in Louisiana; and Art Rocks!, LPB’s weekly series that spotlights artists, performance, culture, literature, history and the impact of art in our world. LPB’s acclaimed documentaries include: Sunshine by the Stars: Celebrating Louisiana Music; Louisiana: A History; Atchafalaya Houseboat; Katrina’s Smallest Victims; Cradle of the Stars -The Story of Louisiana Hayride; Seize Secure: The Battle for La Fière, and Attakapas: The Cajun Story. LPB’s Digital Studios continues to expand its production of original series including Ziggy’s Arts Adventure, One to Grow On, Safe Haven, and Louisiana Harvest of the Month. With topics ranging from arts education and children’s health to history, culture, and locally-grown crops, these digital shorts offer viewers worldwide another way to connect to enriching content produced by LPB’s award-winning team. Louisiana Public Broadcasting is the state’s largest classroom. LPB’s Educational Services Department provides thousands of programming and resource options to parents, teachers, and childcare providers. LPB produces an annual program celebrating some of the exceptional high school students of our state as Louisiana Young Heroes. This program recognizes the achievements of students who have inspired those around them and have devoted their time, talents, and energy to making their schools, churches, or communities better places, sometimes in spite of economic or health challenges. LPB continues to collaborate with the Louisiana State Archives to preserve Louisiana’s historic media recordings and to expand the Louisiana Digital Media Archive (LDMA), which now has over 9,000 videos available for viewing online. The LDMA is affiliated with the American Archive of Public Broadcasting. Each month the LDMA highlights items in its collection with special curated content. LPB’s website is the portal to a plethora of useful information – from primetime programming highlights to lesson plans for teachers to use in conjunction with our educational programming. Louisiana Public Broadcasting is a statewide resource – on the air, on the web, on any device, in the classroom, and in the home. Louisiana Public Broadcasting (LPB) is committed to providing a website that is accessible to the widest possible audience, regardless of technology or ability. If you have any questions about the accessibility of the website, or if you have suggestions on how we might improve to serve you better, please contact us.
