About the Foundation
Nina Heard Astin, a resident of Brazos County, Texas, created a charitable trust in her Last Will and Testament dated January 15, 1969. She was born in McKinney, Texas on January 17, 1888. She attended Mary Baldwin College in Virginia and majored in music at Texas Presbyterian College. She married Roger Q. Astin, a descendant of a pioneer cotton farming family near the Brazos River. Roger and Nina had three children, Daisy, John, and Nina Bess. Mrs. Astin passed away April 17, 1972.
The Astin Family was known for their philanthropy. Mrs. Astin was a strong supporter of the Bryan Boys and Girls Clubs, Brazos Valley Rehabilitation Center, and the First Presbyterian Church.
Mrs. Astin’s Trust continues to make life better in Brazos Valley and is a great example of a lasting legacy for all to follow.
