Description
The Office of Naval Research (ONR) participates and sponsors science fairs, college internships, graduate fellowships and curricular enrichment programs. Outreach initiatives encourage, promote and coordinate naval science and technology both domestically and abroad. - ONR manages the Department of the Navy STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) coordination office, to foster student interest in the sciences and hence build the future science and technology workforce. - The Department of Navy's (DoN) Historically Black Colleges and Universities/Minority Institutions (HBCU/MI) program is designed to increase the participation of under-represented institutions in navally relevant research, development, test and evaluation programs and activities. - In addition to core basic and applied research programs executed by ONR program officers and research performed at naval laboratories, ONR sponsors specialized research programs performed by academic research institutions. These additional initiatives managed by ONR include the Defense University Research Instrumentation Program (DURIP) and the Young Investigator Program (YIP).
