Mission statement The Disability Issues in Psychology Portfolio seeks to use the knowledge and science of psychology to improve the lives of people with disability identities. The Portfolio raises awareness of disability issues within the Association and promotes equal opportunities with disabled people in all areas of psychology. Additionally, the Portfolio supports the development and application of psychological research to influence public policy decisions affecting people with disabilities. Specifically, the Portfolio: - Gathers research and other substantive information relevant to disability issues; - Monitors litigation and judicial decision-making, legislation, and executive initiatives; - Develops and disseminates materials on a variety of educational, professional and consumer issues; - Povides support to APA Governance and the Committee on Disability Issues in Psychology (CDIP); - Networks and engages in collaborative efforts with APA offices and divisions, federal agencies, and other disability groups within professional organizations.
