Description
**About Us** The Oregon Association of Broadcasters, customarily known as the OAB, is a member supported trade association representing the management of radio and television stations in the state of Oregon. Membership consists of 28 of the 28 commercial TV stations, and over 150 commercial radio stations. In addition, there are more than 50 Associate members. Educational radio and television stations are well represented in the OAB, as are the state’s colleges and universities as well. **Facts About the OAB** The President & Executive Director of the OAB is Bob Singer, who most recently served as General Manager of KTVZ-TV (NBC) and KFXO-TV (FOX) in Bend, Oregon. Prior to being General Manager, Bob served as Director of Sales for the stations. The board of directors and officers are comprised of station ownership and management representing a cross section of the industry — both large and small market radio and television companies in all areas of the state, and a representative from the Associate Membership of the OAB. The OAB focuses its efforts on state and federal legislation, sales training, public affairs, awards, career/job fairs and broadcast scholarships. The OAB is also an active participant in a joint council comprised of state bar, press and broadcaster representatives who deal with working relationships between media and the courts. The OAB maintains a website which includes career opportunities, legislative issues, and member station contact information The OAB is active in state and federal legislative issues pertaining to broadcasting. The OAB uses a contract lobbyist to monitor activity, maintain relationships in Salem and works closely with the National Association of Broadcasters to work with our Congressional delegation in Washington, D.C. The Oregon Association of Broadcasters Foundation, organized in 2003, solicits and administers scholarship funds for broadcast journalism students. The OABF has contributed more than $300,000 in scholarships to students since its inception. To better serve the membership of the Oregon Association of Broadcasters, the OAB has retained Matthew McCormick of Fletcher Healed & Hildreth in Washington, D.C. to serve as its legal counsel. Through a program known as the Public Educational Program (PEP), the state’s broadcasters donate coordinated campaigns of announcements for state agencies and non-profit social service organizations without budgets dedicated to regular broadcast advertising. Donations to the OAB for this service helps provide scholarship funds for broadcast journalism students via the Oregon Association of Broadcasters Foundation and supports public or member services the association could not otherwise afford.
