Description
We are excited to announce that as of July 1, 2023 the Yale Program in Judaic Studies has been changed to the Yale Program in Jewish Studies. Following extensive research and discussions with students and faculty across the University our Executive Committee believed that it was time for our Program to broaden the scope of our mission. Jewish Studies best articulates our commitment to being an intellectual center for exploring the various ways Jews and Judaism have intersected with multiple peoples, polities, religions, cultures, philosophies, languages, and literatures across numerous continents for four millennia. We look forward to welcoming you into our new Program and hope to see you soon! The Program in Jewish Studies makes central the global histories, cultures, and philosophies of Jews and Judaism in the comparative environment of diaspora and related terms (nationalism, cosmopolitanism, homeland, refugee, exile, minority). For four millennia Jews and Judaism have intersected with multiple peoples, polities, religions, cultures, philosophies, languages, and literatures across numerous continents. Drawing on both the Humanities and Social Sciences, the Program in Jewish Studies explores the variations and contestations of Jewish cultural production, thought, and experience while offering opportunities for collaboration and comparison with other peoples, social formations, and conceptual neighbors. As a combination of disciplines, the Program in Jewish Studies is thus quintessentially inclusive and comparative, transnational and international. Its boundaries are porous; it invites multi-dimensional and multi-directional inquiry.
