Description
**Mission**
To support a variety of charitable causes with a major focus on education and organizations primarily located in the state of Washington.
Foundation Information
Ruth A. Wheeler and Henry O. Wheeler established their charitable trust in 1982. The Wheeler’s parents moved to Tacoma, Washington, in the mid-1880s and were Tacoma pioneers. The Wheelers were born in Tacoma in the early 1890s and died in Tacoma in the early 1990s. They were privileged to experience essentially the entire American twentieth century in Tacoma, with time spent most years in California. There, they lived and worked through two World Wars, the financial surge of the ‘20s, the Great Depression of the ‘30s, the economic boom of the ‘50s and ‘60s, and the social turmoil of the ‘70s. They endured challenges and found opportunities. Their experience was that adversity produces patience and patience produces hope. The Trust aspires to further the high ideals exemplified by the productive and generous lives lived by Ruth A. Wheeler and Henry O. Wheeler.
