**About Us**
Founded in 1979, the Society for Psychoanalysis and Psychoanalytic Psychology is the 39th division of APA. With more than 3,000 doctoral level psychologists, graduate students and allied mental health professionals, it is one of the largest associations of psychoanalytic professionals and scholars in the world.
Our members represents the full diversity of contemporary psychoanalytic theory, research and clinical practice. Our annual Spring Meeting sponsors more than 60 symposia and workshops highlighting the cutting edge of current psychoanalytic thinking. Members, including student members, receive each of three quarterly publications: *[Psychoanalytic Psychology](https://www.apadivisions.org/division-39/publications/journal "index")*, the division's official journal; [*DIVISION/Review*](http://issuu.com/divisionreview), a literary journal exploring current topics in the field, commentary, book reviews and film reviews; and [*PsycSCAN: Psychoanalysis*](https://www.apadivisions.org/division-39/publications/journal/psycscan "PsycSCAN: Psychoanalysis"), APA's electronic digest of current psychoanalytic clinical and research literature. Members also receive [*InSight*](http://division39blog.org/), a monthly electronic newsletter, with division updates and information on psychoanalytic topics as presented in the media. The division has about 30 [local chapters](https://div39members.wildapricot.org/Section-IV "Section IV: Local Chapter") in cities across the United States and Canada as well as [nine sections](https://div39members.wildapricot.org/Sections "Sections") representing members' broad interest in clinical practice, human development, gender issues, research, groups, family therapy and social action.
We welcome inquiries from members and non-members about all aspects of our association. Non-psychologist mental health professionals are invited to consider membership. For more information, please contact [Ruth Helein](mailto:div39@namgmt.com), director of the Div. 39 office.
