About Us DHS offers services to enhance the quality of life of people with disabilities and those who are aging. Our staff work with individuals, families, and partners to help people learn about our services and how to access them. We help people meet the goals they set for the life they want. The mission of the South Dakota Department of Human Services (DHS) is to enhance the quality of life for older adults and for persons with disabilities, in partnership with its stakeholders. Divisions DHS has five divisions that work together to deliver our services: Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD) The mission of the Division of Developmental Disabilities is to ensure that people with developmental disabilities have equal opportunities and receive the services and supports they need to live and work in South Dakota communities. Division of Rehabilitation Services (DRS) The Division of Rehabilitation Services helps individuals with disabilities obtain or maintain employment, economic self-sufficiency, personal independence, and full inclusion into society. Long Term Services and Supports (LTSS) The Division of Long Term Services and Supports enhances and promotes the quality of life for older adults, adults with disabilities, and their caregivers at home and in the community. Service to the Blind and Visually Impaired (SBVI) The mission of the Division of Service to the Blind and Visually Impaired is to provide individualized rehabilitation services that result in optimal employment and independent living outcomes for citizens who are blind or visually impaired. South Dakota Developmental Center (SDDC) The mission of the South Dakota Developmental Center is to provide comprehensive specialized services designed to enhance quality of life and community inclusion for people with Intellectual Disabilities and/or Developmental Disabilities.
