Description
In the early 1930s, a group of committed business and community leaders came together to create two of New Jersey's first Community Chests in Trenton and Princeton. Now, more than 80 years later United Way of Greater Mercer County (UWGMC) continues the work started by visionary leaders in Mercer County.
From the late 1930s until the early 1990s, two United Way organizations existed in the county:
- Delaware Valley United Way served the communities of Trenton, Hamilton, Washington Township, Ewing and Lawrence.
- United Way - Princeton Area Communities served Princeton, East Windsor, West Windsor, Plainsboro, Cranbury, Hightstown, Montgomery, Hopewell, Pennington, and Rocky Hill.
In 1994, volunteer leaders from the two United Ways came together and merged the organizations into United Way of Greater Mercer County. Today, UWGMC enjoys the same commitment from business and community-minded visionaries that were created in the 1930s.
**The Strength of a Worldwide Organization**
United Way has deep roots in the community with volunteer leadership on the ground, but we also have the broad reach that allows us to roll out good ideas across the nation and around the world. This lets us take the most successful strategies to scale and leverage resources for maximum impact.
United Way Worldwide's (UWW) mission is to improve lives by mobilizing the caring power of communities around the world to advance the common good.
**Our Commitment to Greater Mercer County**
We connect people with resources propelling individuals and families to reach their fullest potential to create a thriving community. In order to achieve our mission, we invest in programs, community partnerships, and volunteer engagement in youth and family success, economic vitality and health and wellness.
