Description
--- Mission
U.S. Embassy Santiago, proudly representing the American people, works to strengthen democracy, promote economic opportunity, and further the security and prosperity of the United States. The Americans and Chileans who constitute our team come from many agencies and backgrounds, bringing a wealth of experience and skill to this Mission. Using the resources entrusted to us, we lead efforts that bring the U.S. and Chile together in a productive and mutually beneficial partnership.
Drawing on our close bilateral relations and shared values, we support Chile’s leadership in spreading the benefits of democracy and free markets throughout the region. We welcome Chile’s active participation in the international arena. Bilateral cooperation in law enforcement combats terrorism, narcotics, and criminal activity. Strong military ties support regional stability, improve interoperability with U.S. forces and enhance Chile’s ability to participate in global peacekeeping and other security operations. We join with Chile to develop science and technology for our mutual security.
We facilitate rapidly growing commercial relations between our two nations, identifying markets for trade in goods and services and investment opportunities for U.S. firms. We promote and protect U.S. agriculture. We encourage Chile to continue its trade liberalization policies, to improve its protection of intellectual property rights, and to provide expanded access for U.S. goods and services.
We engage Chile’s leaders and people to promote United States views and policies. Our innovative public diplomacy reaches Chilean opinion makers and youth through information sharing, people-to-people exchanges, cultural, scientific, and sports programs, and English language training. We seek to better understand Chilean society and culture in our daily outreach throughout the country.
As the U.S.-Chile relationship broadens and deepens, we provide assistance to an increasing number of Americans visiting Chile for business, tourism, research, and study. The well-being of our compatriots is our most important responsibility; we work with Chilean authorities to ensure the safety of American in Chile. We encourage legitimate travel of Chileans to the U.S., because travel furthers mutual understanding of American society and contributes to our economic prosperity. At the same time, we work to prevent the entry into the U.S. of those who would do us harm.
For our team, and for the families who accompany and support us, it is an honor and a privilege to represent the United States overseas in the 21st century. We take care of our people, providing them the security and tools to do the job. We assume our responsibilities with pride, committed to the highest standards of professionalism and integrity. The American people deserve nothing less.

Architectural History of the U.S. Embassy Chancery Santiago, Chile
The United States Embassy, located in the northeastern section of Santiago, in the neighborhood of Las Condes, opened on July 5, 1994. The building was designed by Leonard Parker Associates, Minneapolis, Minnesota. The primary design objectives were to present an image symbolic of the United States as a democratic society and to create a high-quality, cost-effective facility. The design is influenced by the triangular shaped site, security requirements and seismic conditions.
Two distinct building components identify the public and private functions of the 122,700 square-foot Embassy. Together they form an integrated architectural whole. The Consular Section and Public Affairs, which function as public services, are housed in the two-story component. Other Embassy offices are in a circular five-story tower organized around a central atrium which serves as a social space.
A formal two-story entry rotunda and trapezoidal service tower connect the two building components functionally and visually. A processional exterior entry drive and plaza reinforce the formal image of the Embassy.
The facade is constructed of granite quarried in the U.S. with pre-finished aluminum panels — also from the U.S. — interspersed throughout. The exteriors utilize granite, marble, hardwoods and brass to create a formal but functional image.
