Description
Through U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), the United States works in partnership with local governments to help save the lives of those suffering from HIV/AIDS around the world. The U.S. government’s HIV work in Mozambique, through the PEPFAR program, began in 2004, and Mozambique is one of 22 countries in Africa receiving PEFPAR support. Mozambique is also one of three countries in Africa that participates in the Gender Based Violence (GBV) Initiative with additional funding to support GBV prevention and availability and quality of GBV services. The Government of Mozambique and the Government of the United States sign a Partnership Framework which provides five-year joint strategic plans for cooperation between the two countries to respond to the HIV epidemic. The strategic framework outlines joint priorities and key policy issues to address the epidemic in Mozambique and describes Mozambican and American commitments to achieve these strategic priorities.
