Weill Cornell Medicine's Department of Anesthesiology is comprised of over 100 highly-skilled attending anesthesiologists dedicated to providing the highest quality of care to all of our patients. While every member of our faculty has received extensive training in all areas of anesthesiology, many of our staff members have additional expertise and training in providing anesthesia for specific types of surgery, such as cardiac, thoracic, vascular, neurological, obstetric, and pediatric surgery. The department was founded in 1948, and has a long and rich tradition of excellence in clinical care, teaching and research. We are committed to innovation in perioperative clinical care to maximize quality and efficiency in anesthesia, pain and critical care, along with discovery and translation of novel therapies and healthcare delivery models in a thriving academic environment. The department has expanded significantly over the past decade in its provision of clinical care, contributions to hospital administration, teaching within the Weill Cornell Medical College at both the New York City and Qatar campuses, and participation in clinical and basic science research. Our education program is highlighted by our outstanding residency program with positions for 82 physicians in training, including interns and residents. We have ACGME-approved fellowships in pain management, critical care medicine, cardiothoracic anesthesia, and obstetric anesthesia, and additional fellowships in thoracic anesthesia, neuroanesthesia, regional anesthesiology and acute pain medicine, and global health. We also have a competitive Van Poznak Research Scholarship to foster the development of physician-scientists through residency training and the transition into faculty.
