Biography

Jose received his M.D. from Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM), Predoctoral and Postdoctoral Fellowships at Methodist Hospital Houston and T32 sponsored Postdoctoral training at Baylor College of Medicine. In predoctoral and postdoctoral fellowships under the mentorship of Guillermo Torre-Amione, MD, PhD, Jose focused on the role the immune system plays in cardiac failure and transplantation and cardiac imaging in these models, mainly cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR). In 2014, Jose completed a T32 postdoctoral training fellowship at the NIH sponsored Atherosclerosis and Vascular Biology Training Center (AVBTC) at the Baylor College of Medicine under the mentorship of Christie M. Ballantyne, MD, Dipan J. Shah, M.D. and Gerd Brunner, PhD. Currently, Jose is a Research Associate at Baylor College of Medicine in the Department of Surgery where he implements innovative technologies from other areas like in-vivo and ex-vivo imaging modalities and nanotechnology to better understand the tumor microenvironment and treat more efficiently various cancers. Jose’s main research focus is the implementation of advanced MRI techniques in the diagnosis, prognosis and evaluation of disease progression. Jose also has a genuine interest in the use of innovative technologies in healthcare and the positive impact it can have on patient outcomes.
