Created workshops, panels, focus groups, etc. - select listing Let's Talk about Money: Understanding Pay Practices - This discussion was facilitated by Professor Margaret Bailey and Professor Rachel Roberts, Associate Professor and Graduate Degree Program Director of the Institute for Music Leadership, Eastman School of Music. The audience included fifteen (15) student and professional members of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE). The facilitators explored several areas of compensation including equity considerations and tips for benchmarking. We also stressed the importance of understanding the value that we each bring to a new employment opportunity or promotion. The session explored how to shape future thinking and discussions regarding salary. (30 March 2021, Zoom, 7:00 - 8:00 pm ET)

Making Connections: Story Work and Reflective Practices - RIT Professors Margaret Bailey and Laura Shackelford, Department of English led this interactive 90-minute long workshop for twenty (20) chapter contributors to the volume which will be published by Springer in 2022 titled "Women in Mechanical Engineering: Energy and Environment". The workshop was designed to provide an opportunity for authors to meet one another, to discuss plans for the chapters, and to raise questions. In this interactive session, Laura introduced some story- based reflection and learning activities that might be of use as the authors draft and revise chapters. We created an opportunity for authors to practice using storytelling to facilitate dialogue, to co-learn through radical listening, and as an observation and reflection tool. Together, we read and discussed the AAUW report Solving the Equation: The Variables for Women's Success in Engineering and Computing by Corbett and Hill. The report explores the factors that underlie the underrepresentation of women in the engineering and computing workplace and argues for changes in order for women's full participation, including addressing stereotypes and biases, emphasizing the social relevance of STEM, cultivating a sense of belonging within the work environment, and changing the work environment where needed. In this Teaching Circle, we reviewed each chapter, connected the content to RIT, and reflected on action(s) that we could take to change the work environment. The event will gather all interested members of the RIT community to explore the topic of "building a university culture that maximizes the wrap-around success of its women students." By "wrap-around success," we mean choosing the right school (prospective students); being comfortable and academically successful in that school's culture (current students); and finding professional success after graduation (alums). Professors Kit Mayberry (CLA) and Margaret Bailey (KGCOE) facilitated these discussions. Overall, there was a total 34 participants with students from various colleges across the university along with both undergraduate and graduate students. (4, 6, and 12

Bystander Awareness Workshops: Studies, Stories, Systems - Dr. Bailey led the creation of this workshop series and co-facilitated the offerings with Dr. Maureen Scully, University of MA, Boston in collaboration with Tina Chapman DaCosta, Director of the RIT Diversity Theater, Nancy McDonald -Stoler from RIT Human Resources, Stacy DeRooy from RIT Title IX and Compliance, and Joe Johnston from the RIT Ombud's Office. Workshops were held within the RIT College of Liberal Arts for the college's faculty, staff, and academic leaders. The goals were to bring awareness to the importance of being an active bystander in situations of microaggression. The workshops focused on tackling microaggressions as a bystander through the use of "micro -interventions." The intent of the micro-intervention is to first make the microaggression visible, then disarm the microaggression, educate the perpetrator, and finally seek external reinforcement. Nearly forty participants attended and feedback of the workshops was collected after the session and three weeks later. The trends for leaders shifted between the initial and follow-up surveys. On the initial surveys they were less interested and less likely to take action but on the follow- up they were more likely to strongly agree to a number of the items. This maybe a selection bias issue rather than the result of an actual difference, given the low numbers of respondents. In both the initial and follow-up surveys, people asked for more emphasis placed on the training and offenses of tenured faculty members.
